We all have those mornings where nothing seems to go right. Homework is lost, there’s nothing to pack for lunch and the school bus seems to come earlier than it should. When these mornings are every morning, it’s time to take action and bring a little order to the first part of the day.

Preparation is Everything

It may be trite to say it, but getting school and work items ready the night before saves a lot of time in the morning. If your clothes are out, then they’ll be no need to waste time scrambling for an outfit in the morning. Here are the basics that should be prepared and set out the night before:

  • Clothing
  • Lunches
  • All breakfast items that don’t need refrigeration
  • Backpacks

Avoid Homework Fumbles

You know your child did his homework, so why is it missing in the morning when it’s time to get on the school bus? This problem is easily solved with one simple rule. Homework isn’t done until it’s in the proper folder and in the backpack. If that rule is followed, they’ll be no more missing assignments.

No TV Mornings

Television is a gigantic distraction for children as they get ready for school. Not only that, but many siblings start fighting over what to watch first thing in the morning. No one wants to start their day that way. Establish a rule that there is no TV on school mornings.

Quick, Healthy Breakfast

Leaving the house on an empty stomach is never a good idea, for both young and old. Make it a point to have an easy, but healthy, breakfast all set to go for the school morning. Make some homemade muffins, buy nutritious cereals or set up the crockpot the night before with healthy breakfast ingredients.

Some organization and a few simple rules should turn your mornings from chaos into smooth sailing. Your kids will rarely miss the school bus!
